As such, we want to spread the word that another Market Collective (a quarterly gathering of artists) will take place this weekend in Kensington. Details in the flyer after the jump. Read more

CgyArt.ca is a unique enterprise geared to connect a multitude of different artists from Calgary and area into one online location. There are similar ventures online that attempt to draw similar artists into the same community but two things are missing: they generally aren't focused to one geographic area, and they focus on one single artistic expression.

Some painters will be over here, photographers on flickr, musicians on Myspace, and so on.

On Sunday I had the chance to stop in at the Plaza and take in the Calgary Society of Independent Filmmakers 30th Anniversary member night screening special. There were 14 short films from around Calgary. I purposefuly chose the event to catch a glimpse of our city through the eyes of some of our producers/directors.

As you can see with the new design, we're getting closer to an official launch. Although artists have been able to create their own web site @ xxx.cgyart.ca , we haven't gone 'live'. There are a few bugs to iron out but things are quickly approaching launch status.

What does that mean? well for starters we'll be actively pursing artists and web traffic. That means more eyes on your materials. We're also developing ways to showcase the most active blogs in the network on the main page. That's a free blog and free exposure, what more could you want?!!

CgyArt.ca is a new web site for Calgary and area artists to showcase their talents online. Since we're only in a beta stage (not ready to go public) we ask that you online inform your fellow artists and creators about the web site.

CgyArt is different than other networks online because of a few things:

1) It houses online local artists;

2) It will contain a broad range of local artists (from music, to fine art, to photography);

3) It is FREE to start your own blog (located at yourblog.cgyart.ca);
